Updated: Jun 18, 2022

Location: Purok Upper Labay, Barangay Olympog, General Santos City

If you’re looking for picturesque view with stunning vast green mountains as the background and cold wind breeze despite of hot climate, then Barikot Peak is for you. Barikot Peak is a neighboring peak of Sanchez Peak but has different perspective. Barikot Peak is divided into three sections with equally stunning views in different angles of the mountain. There are picture-perfect spots with various props and backdrops if you’d like some Instagrammable snaps. There is a flower garden of vibrant celosias flowers, has bamboo view decks that also serve as resting areas after a long hike or ride. It is a perfect spot to calm your mind, meditate your soul and de-stress your life.

How to get there

  • From Gensan City proper (Gensan Public Market), look for tricycle terminal that is bound to Barangay Olympog (70-80 pesos)

  • From Purok B'LAKAYO going to BARIKOT VIEW DECK (Fare 100 pesos)

Take Note: If you’d like your travel to be more adventurous and seize the beauty of the mountain, you can just trek, it’s really fun and healthy, plus you can save money. From Purok B'LAKAYO, the trek will take up to 1-2 hours depending on how expert and skilled you are in climbing mountains.

What to bring

  • Water – to stay hydrated

  • Money – for entrance fees and other expenses

  • Tent – if you don’t have a tent, you can rent (100 pesos)

  • Foods – if you don’t want your expenses to be doubled, bring your own foods because the food there is quite pricy but it is understandable since it is located in far flung area anyway.

  • Jacket and a pair of socks – if you don’t want to freeze because of the cold weather, I suggest you should bring jacket and socks.

What to expect

  • Fresh air that is so, so much therapeutic it could alleviate your worries, heals your soul, and helps you forget what is hurting.

  • Mt. Matutum View – if you’re lucky and you get there on sunny day, you can get a clear and picturesque view of Mt. Matutum

  • City Lights – the moment that everybody anticipated. However, if you’d like a 360-degree view of Gensan and Polomolok’s city lights, I suggest you should visit Sanchez Peak, there is the perfect spot.

  • Picture Perfect view of flowers, mountains, and Mt. Matutum Volcano

  • Rooms and Cottages – Barikot View Deck’s cottages are really incredible, it is made of bamboos, it’s relaxing, and you can relax freely there’s no fees included.
